The obverse of the coin in the ring of dots specified denomination: a large figure "5" under the word "РУБЛЕЙ" below the mark of the Leningrad mint (LMD stylized letters) between two thickened to the center lines, still below the year of issue "1993". On either side of the denomination located on the left ear of wheat, to the right - an oak branch. The outside of the ring at the top is the name of the state "ТУРКМЕНИСТАН" also in the bottom semi-circle "БАНК РОССИИ"(labels separated by a pattern).
The reverse of the coin is the relief image of a portion of the ensemble of the ancient city of Merv - the tomb of the brothers Askhabov. At the bottom of the small ornament of stylized font is the name of the state "Turkmenistan", at the top along the rim in a semicircle in the same font, but bigger - "МЕРВ" below between patterns in two lines - "2,500 years".
The obverse and reverse of the coin features the speaker on the circumference of the piping.
