The obverse of the coin
in the ring of dots in relief is depicted the dome of the Senate building in the Moscow Kremlin and Spasskaya tower, right of the turret the mark of the Moscow mint

clearly shows the main sights of Kiev: in the foreground the statue of "the Motherland", at the rear the monuments of Vladimir Svyatoslavich, to Bogdan Khmelnitsky and St. Sophia Cathedral bell tower. Circumferentially along the rim the inscription: "50 ЛЕТ ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЯ КИЕВА ОТ ФАШИСТСКИХ ЗАХВАТЧИКОВ"

After the victory in the Caucasus and Kursk, German forces were forced to retreat in the direction of Ukraine, leaving behind destroyed cities and towns.
