This section shows some of the vast number known among collectors of so-called "tavern brand." Currently there is no comprehensive catalogue of these items, but partial attempts of systematization in directory Y. Andrianov, literature Shilkina and A. Tunceli. Systematization is usually based on the size and shape of tokens, almost all of them were made of brass, but there are in white metal. They date back to approximately the second half of the XIX century, probably were produced before the Revolution. The earliest have a nominal value in rubles of silver, which indicates the release of their soon after the reform Kankrin. The value of the vast majority of tokens is specified in cents, and it often does not correspond to the coins of that time, as consistent with the cost of food or drink (for example 45 cents).
The purpose of the production of metal tavern brands were numerous cases of deception of visitors of restaurants. Employees of institutions (then they were called "sex") took with visitors, often who were in a state of intoxication, a much greater amount, including in the order an additional portion. The owners were ordered special metal tokens, the manufacturing cost of each of them was approximately 0.3 of a penny. Visitors purchased tokens at the entrance and could only pay them, so the workers lost the opportunity to benefit from the deception. Trust "Arktikugol" has been opened on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard in 1931. In Soviet times there was a special coin for this area, and in 1993 issued coins denominated in rubles and the inscription "Russian Federation".
